Geo Holiday Vacation Club Presentation Experience

Hi All,

I just wanted to post this to people out there.... about a company named Geo Holidays... aka Fairfield Affiliate.

We got a call from someone from Geo Holidays last week. This person claimed that we had won one of 4 free vacation packages to various locations in the world. Instead of advertising on TV, radio, billboards, etc.. he said they believed word of mouth advertisement is what they want. We would enjoy our vacation so much that we would happily spread good word of mouth. (We are in Toronto, Canada by the way).

Being skeptical I asked what the catch was. I asked this guy, "what will you people try to sell me when I come there? is this in any way a timeshare?". He assured me that there were no strings attached... We just have to go there and draw for the prize (but said we had to be there for approx. 90 mins).

If I hadn't of entered a draw for a vacation at a store earlier this year I probably wouldn't have gone at all.... but I didn't want to miss out if I was mistaken. I also couldn't turn up anything bad for Geo Holidays when searching on the internet....

Anyways, we drive to the place Saturday morning (our prearranged meeting time)... and the sign outside on the building says "Fairfield Affiliate". Interesting... the name Geo Holidays is seen nowhere (apparently they are just a partner). Inside we were led to a room where we wait a while and then every couple gets a salesperson sitting beside them to start talking us into buying this vacation (concept).

"All we ask is that you keep an open mind. When you get over how we got you all here, you will be happy. At the end you just need to say yes or no." Yeah, right. This guy from Tennessee comes in and start making a big presentation trying to be funny and all. The audience felt so fixedwith the agents everywhere... they laughed on cue...clapped on cue... like puppets. The whole thing felt like something out of the Twilight Zone...Creepy...

The speaker goes on talking about points and a system called FairShare (but explaining that it is not timeshare). He goes on mentioning it will cost us $1066 to go anywhere in the world each year... blah blah blah....

He finishes... and it is time for our salesman to continue to try to talk us into it. He reminds us thatwe are guaranteed our free vacation no matter what happens. Out of curiousity I ask how much this actually costs. So... we go to a room with about 40 tables with paper and calculators on them.

He slowly explains everything to us. The total cost for the package came out to about $40,000 something. The membership is for 45 years. I'm thinking... these guys must be nuts!! And that is just for the package itself... let alone the annual maintenance fees of around $500. He does some calculations and says I will only have to pay $900 per month to get this package. Yeah, right!! ha!! I told the guy bluntly that there was no was in hell he was going to get a "yes" out of me. He told me to wait while he got another representative to tell us about a package he might not of heard about.

So... some lady came over and sat down with us. She offered us another package that was for about $15,600 with much less included (of course). But she said today they had a special on it and that it was only $13,600. It came out to about $290 per month or something plus the extra $400 maintenance fees (they write a US$ figure to make it seem smaller). I told her even if it was $20 per month we wouldn't say "yes".

After talking for another half hour she said she wanted to talk to her boss to see if there was anything else she could do. She comes back and says there was a promotion on that she wasnt aware of and the price would actually be $11,000. We still said "no". She made it seem that us saying "no" just boggled her mind.... like she couldn't comprehend how someone could say "no"! She told us that she was in this program herself and that we would be fools not to join.

(In between these discussions we are interrupted 3 times by people announcing who has just bought the package. "Quiet everyone. May we have your attention. Mr. and Mrs. Smith all the way from Toronto have just signed up with us." <<Clapping>>. Again sounding so fixed and creepy. And when we are talking about the packages when this happens the lady tells us to be quiet and listen.)

Still not understanding the answer no, my wife writes the letters "NO" on a piece of paper a dozen or so times, shows it to them, and tells them that we are leaving. They finally understand. They lead us to the prize office and we draw our 3 days accommodation-only prize for Orlando, Florida.. and we leave. At least we got something... The way these companies lure us in... I don't understand how anyone would hand over any money.

They wanted word of mouth from me.... and now I have fulfilled my duty.

Conditions for Grand Prize Draw

1. No purchase is necessary to enter.  However, the contest is limited to couples (married or cohabitating) living in Canada (outside of the Province of Quebec) who are between the ages of 27 & 68 and have a combined household income of $45,000 or greater.  Only one entry per Canadian household is permitted.
2. To enter, go to the Official Entry Form and complete all required information on the form and click “submit”. All entrants can only enter the contest once.
3. By entering the Contest, entrants consent to the collection, use and disclosure of their personal information for the purposes of administering the Contest and for the purposes of understanding the needs and preferences of individuals or to develop, enhance, market and/or provide products and services. GeoHoliday and clubseasonscanada will collect, use and disclose personal information in accordance with the GeoHoliday privacy policy, a copy of which is available here.
4. The Contest will be run in accordance with these rules, subject to amendment by GeoHoliday and clubseasonscanada (the "Rules".  Entrants must comply with the Rules, and will be deemed to have received and understood the Rules by participating in the Contest. The terms of the Contest, as set out in the Rules, are not subject to amendment or counter-offer, except as set out herein. GeoHoliday and clubseasonscanada’s decisions with respect to the Contest are final and binding. If any provisions of the Rules are held to be invalid or unenforceable, all remaining provisions hereof will remain in full force and effect.
5. GRAND PRIZE DRAW: The winning entry will be randomly selected from all qualified entries received on or before July 31, 2009.  The odds of winning are dependent upon the number of qualified entries.
   
   The following Grand Prize is available to be won, subject to the Rules and the items below:

   One clubseasonscanada Gold Membership entitling the winner to 10 years of access to clubseasonscanada luxury timeshare accommodations (based on a one-week holiday entitlement each year), with the annual Maintenance Fee paid for each of the 10 years of the Gold Membership.

   Certain portions of the Grand Prize may have additional rules that apply or conditions that must be met in order to use it (for example, the rules of occupation with which all clubseasonscanada members must comply).  Winner agrees to such rules and acknowledges that if conditions are not met, that portion of the Grand Prize may not be awarded to winner and no substitute prize or cash equivalent will be provided.  Some restrictions may apply.  All other expenses incidental to membership in clubseasonscanada (including, without limitation, airfare, meals, ground transportation, taxes, special assessments, gratuities and activities) are and remain the sole responsibility of the winner during the period of time that the winner retains the clubseasonscanada Gold membership.  Total approximate retail value of the Grand Prize is $10,830.00 CAD.  Any difference between stated approximate retail value and actual prize will not be awarded.

6. WINNING AND NOTIFICATION: The entrant selected to be the Grand Prize winner will be notified by email within 15 days of being randomly selected after July 31, 2009.   Before being declared a winner of the Grand Prize, an entrant who is a resident of Canada must correctly answer a mathematical skill-testing question.  Before being declared a winner of the Grand Prize, the selected entrant will be required to sign a declaration and release form confirming compliance with these Contest Rules and acceptance of the Grand Prize or any portion of the Grand Prize as offered; acknowledging the non-responsibility of GeoHoliday and clubseasonscanada and their respective agents with respect to injuries, accident, loss or misfortune relating to the Grand Prize or any portion of the Grand Prize; and acknowledging GeoHoliday and clubseasonscanada and their respective agents' right to publish or broadcast the winner's picture, name, address, voice and statements without charge or further compensation other than the prize offered.  In the event that the winning entrant is not eligible to claim the Grand Prize, does not claim the Grand Prize within 14 days of being notified by email, is unwilling or unable to comply with the Rules, the prize notification is returned as undeliverable, or if GeoHoliday and clubseasonscanada is unable to contact the entrant within a reasonable time frame, using commercially reasonable efforts, that entry will be disqualified and another qualified entrant will be randomly selected, and subject to the notification and claim process described above.  The process will continue until a Grand Prize winner is confirmed.  The Contest winner is solely responsible for the reporting and payment of any applicable taxes on the Grand Prize or any portion of the Grand Prize. Winner may waive their right to receive all or a portion of the Grand Prize.  Other than at the sole discretion of GeoHoliday and clubseasonscanada, the Grand Prize and each portion of it are non-transferable, non-exchangeable, and non-refundable, have no cash value and must be accepted by the winner as awarded.
7. BONUS PROMOTION:  For all entrants, clubseasonscanada may offer an opportunity to qualify for a clubseasonscanada Platinum membership.  Qualified participants in that promotion will be responsible for the Maintenance Fees associated with their clubseasonscanada Platinum membership (currently assessed at $688.00 per year).  Qualified participants in this promotion would be eligible to receive a 45-year luxury timeshare membership allowing for an annual allotment of a one-week resort accommodation, subject to availability, at any of clubseasonscanada’s directly owned or affiliated resorts.  Dates are available throughout the year, but vary from resort to resort.  Membership in clubseasonscanada can be surrendered at any time without penalty or future financial obligation.  Upon payment of each year`s annual maintenance fee, clubseasonscanada Platinum memberships may be continued for a period of 45 years from the date of activation.  Chances of qualifying for the Bonus Promotion are dependent upon how many entries are received in each period.

01/19/09 - I got a letter in the mail saying I 'won' something worth $5950 from them, after checking out the website it seems to be a scam to me.

Has anyone else had experience with them?

A Proponent of GeoHoliday and Club Seasons Canada Speak Out

10/25/08 - I actually called in to speak with a representative after receiving a letter. They mentioned getting my address from a grand prize draw I entered. I do remember entering the draw so I did my research about the company. There is no mention of charities online or in the letter they sent. The also asked for my number when I called in. I then asked why they needed it and was informed that they receive calls only because they are an awards claim department, not a call center, so they don't have access to numbers. I believe you must be mistaken about the DNC list in respect to this company because you call them, not the other way around.

As for the product, I did claim my award and paid a very small maintenance fee for a week's vacation for me and my family. Clubseasons Canada happens to be associated with GeoHolidays which my sister has a timeshare with. She is happy with them and I am looking forward to our first vacation as a family.

(Note: based on other reports I have read so far, to me this sounds like a shill.)

In May 2007 I went to one of their presentations and got the "free vacation". However, it wasn't all free as I was asked to pay a $50 fee and also I would have to pay extra to upgrade to a better hotel, and not just the standard motel they offered.

We were also never told that there would be a yearly maintenance fee, otherwise why would we have paid a fortune for holidays that $40,000 would have given us at more than 1st class accomodations. Imagine our surprise when that bill arrived.

A promise was also made that we could 'bank' our points and cash them in on the 'ultimate' vacation, also not true, they expire.

We (feel we) were deceived, manipulated and now after paying over $40,000 we face 45 years of $2000 (and climbing) fees for vacations we do not take.

My membership of $25,000 was paid in full only this year as I had to take the 50/50 option to avoid all the interest that they charge. A month after I was called in again to be advised of a "new accelerated program" they are now offering but as per their usual scripted speech, it was for that day only and set to expire once I walked out of the door.  I had many calls into Member Services and even had the pleasure of speaking with a rather hostile lady by the name of Betty Eisenstadt.
