Is anyone here a Barbizon model? I would like to ask you some things. Is it a good place to go? Should I save my money like I'm planning?

Everything I have heard about them is negative.

1. They will accept anyone no matter how unattractive if you have the money.

2. One girl paid them $1,500. After two lessons they told her she did not have what it takes. They did not give back any of her money.

3. I have heard numerous supermodels say, 'Do not go to modeling schools.'

4. In conclusion, do not waste any time or money on a modeling school especially Barbizon.

If anyone from from Barbizon reads this, "Get a life." Sue me, you frauds.

Modeling Agencies ("schools") have only two places to get money from: Legitimate commercial clients who PAY to hire models, or from the models themselves. Would you rather be with an "agency" that wants to get paying jobs *for* you, or one that wants to get money *from* you?

EVERY legitimate agency that I've dealt with says the same thing —they won't TOUCH a model who's come from a school like Barbizon. (I suppose if they saw another Cindy Crawford they'd make an exception, but, realistically, how many of those are there out there?)

Likewise, I won't hire a model from a school like that. Barbizon is just one of the schools who is reknowned for taking on ANYONE, even those people who everyone KNOWS will never make it in the business. As long as you have money, you've got potential in their eyes.

Did you ever think that if they were able to actually BOOK paying work for you that they wouldn't NEED you to pay for anything?

SAVE YOUR MONEY. If you must spend money, invest it in a good headshot. If you actually DO have any talent or potential, a legitimate agency will tell you —and they won't charge you a dime.

Look in the Yellow Pages and call all the agencies listed. Ask if they are a SAG or AFTRA franchised/affiliated agency. If not, HANG UP. If so, ask if they have open calls, or if you can drop off a headshot for their consideration.

You can also call local Commercial Photographers in your area, and ask if they ever do test shoots. If they do, they would be another good source for feedback on your potential.

I don't know much about Barbizon models, but what I have heard is that they don't do much for you. They take your money, and if you're really good they will take more. But shop around and listen to other people's opinions before you decide.

Good luck,

W.

Hi! Please respond if you attend the Barbizon school/agency. I want to know if I really should spend my money on it. How much of a chance do I have to go very far with it? Should I just try to send pics to photographers at major companies?

Please help.

Kelli

Barbizon is a "Charm School." If you want to be charming go there. If you want to be a model see an agent.
