Nigerian Advance Fee Fraud Scholarship Scam Examples

Scholarship With a T

Staff and students at the University of the South Pacific have been warned not to respond to posters inviting applications for Nigerian scholarships.

The posters invited applications for both local and overseas institutions in any field of study to be sent with about eight dollars in British pounds, US Dollars or postal notes.

Investigations by the university failed to establish any evidence of good faith from the organization inviting applications or determine the identity of the person or group responsible for putting up the posters. There were no telephone or fax number or e-mail contact.

A Nigerian academic teaching at the University of the South Pacific warned against responding to the posters noting that if lots of people responded, this small sum quickly multiplied into a large amount of profit for those behind the scam as those sending the money would get nothing in return.
