A retired Air Force enlisted man who was working as a civil servant at Port San Antonio was sentenced to eight years in prison this week after pleading guilty to Internet solicitation of a 13-year-old girl.

Bruce Lee Miller, 45, of the 4700 block of Spiral Creek Drive, entered the plea May 10 before 290th District Judge Sharon MacRae and was sentenced Tuesday.

Prosecutors said Miller could be eligible for parole in one or two years but, upon leaving prison, must register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

Miller was arrested Dec. 6, 2005, outside a Big Lots store where he was expecting to rendezvous with a teenage girl for sex. Instead, he found San Antonio police Detective Anthony Smith, who was posing as a 13-year-old girl named Vanessa in an Internet chat room.

Between August and December 2005, Miller e-mailed “Vanessa” more than 20 sexually explicit photos, prosecutors said.

When Miller was arrested, Cliff Herberg, first assistant district attorney, said police found two boxes of condoms, a bottle of Viagra and multimedia photography equipment, including a tripod, indicating that the defendant was intending to make video recordings of his sexual assault.
