Modeling Scams

Susan Page Modeling School and Agency

To Whom It May Concern:

About four years ago, I put my son, then 10, through a modeling class at Susan Page, aka PK Models and Talent, here in Honolulu, HI.

I paid $500 for this and he has only had one paid "gig" since then for around $75. DISCOURAGING!

Anyway, I have two other sons whom I would also like to get into this biz, but I don't want to be taken again.

I am considering starting my own modeling agency, but don't want to be one that ends up on this site with a bad rep.

Where can I find the rules or regulations and rates for this so that I can give and receive a fair rate?

Any advice you can give would be really appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

A.,

Hawaii has rules which basically set the same standard for modeling/talent agencies as employment agencies. You can actually read the statutes online at the website of the State of Hawaii.

A brief summary of a few important issues is included below in an excerpt from the legal reference section of The Glam Scam:

Hawaii does not have specific laws regulating talent/modeling agencies. Employment agencies must be licensed by the Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs. Employment agents must pass a "certified employment consultant" examination... Employment agencies cannot collect an advance registration fee. A bond is required in the amount of $5,000.
