Dear Sir,
I am a preacher with the Seed
Harvest Ministry and I will like to
get advice from you. I believe the
advice I need is secular to some
extent, but do have the patience to
understand my intention.
A few year's ago I was in Liberia where I
had established a little congregation where I
preached regularly, but the civil war escalated
and the church was converted to a hospital of
sorts. On one faithful day three
Nigerian Soldiers came to me and left trunks
of money with me and swore to
come back for it.
When the war in Liberia intensified
I deposited this box in a security
vault in Togo. I was escorted to Togo
by the ECOMOG soldiers who felt the content of
the trunks were documents and never cared to
check the trunks. I was airlifted to England
with other refugees then I stayed in England
and when I was getting frustrated I returned to
Africa only to find out that two of the
three Soldiers died in Battle
while the last was declared Missing in
Action.
Now I have the fund which the soldiers said
was over thirty million dollars, but it lies in
a security vault in Togo and I was contacted in
a letter dated 12th of September by the
security company asking me to indicate if I was
in receipt of the letter as a sign that I am
living and still subscribed for their
service.
I am interested in using a small
fraction of this fund, much less than
one percent for a reorganization of the work
but I do not need the rest and
do not want to have any direct dealing with it.
I need someone who will be able to use the fund
better, maybe for charity or something
universally profitable.
I have thought of doing it my self but my
ministry is the apocalypse and I believe and
preach the soon coming of the Lord which make
me not indulgent in reliance on money or wealth
in any form.
I also do not have the fee that has
accrued on the service and safe
deposit of the company that holds the
fund. I will be glad if you have any interest
in the direction of maybe managing or
transmitting the fund as you prefer in your
capacity and understanding.

My husband Paul worked in Nigeria in 1992.
After he returned we received thru the
mail the type of letters you exhibit. Since
then I've seen it in many different forms.
Below is one I just received at the
church where I work.

It is a privilege to hear from God and it
gives me joy to relate my testimony to you
haven received instruction from God through
divine revelation.
I was a Moslem and a retired military
top officer in Nigerian Army that
served under the past military regime. I was
the financial secretary to the Armed Force
Ruling Council (AFRC). With my position
as a financial secretary, I was able to
divert up to $45,000,000.00 (Forty
Five million U.S. Dollars, into my personal
Bank Account, hoping to invest the money
when I'm retired.
Immediately I got retired, I was
converted from Moslem to
Christian when I was preached the words of God
through my cousin Pastor Paul Osakwe. I then

(Honourable Oputa Panel) to probe the Bank
Account of the past Military officers like me.
Instead of losing this money to my government,
I quickly withdrew my money out of my Account
and deposited the money in a finance
and security company for safety.
My Pastor has advised me to sneak out of the
country with the money to sow it into a
ministries abroad. I have decided to
sow this money into your ministry. I
am making arrangement to come over to your
country but you need to receive this money from
the finance and security company in cash before
I come over.
The cash has been packaged by the security
company in consignments and ready for
shipment but the security company
requires the address of the receiver. Please

I want to sincerely thank you for your
generous offer to use your finances for the
Lord's work though our church. I'm sure you can
imagine what $20 million dollars would mean to
a small, rural church in America, or anywhere
else in the world for that matter.
I want you to know I certainly would not
want to be found resisting a clear revelation
of God's will in this matter. I also would not
want in any way to quench the fire of a newly
born again Christian. I am VERY pleased to hear
the testimony of your conversion and salvation

The way that sounds here in America is that

legal and moral aspects of the situation before
I could recommend to my church that they accept
the money. If the money was wrongfully taken
from the government of Nigeria, it should be
returned to the government or to the people of
Nigeria..
Please forgive me for questioning this also,
but I need to openly ask if there are any
conditions or expectations attached to this
gift. I think we would need to look into the
legalities and liabilities of receiving such a
gift from a foreign country? Would there be any
taxes or other fees to pay?
Finally, I would like to be able to talk
with your pastor and any international
missionaries you or he may have contact with. I
would like to hear their explanation of the
legal and moral implications what you're
proposing.

God One, Scammers Zero
My wife and I had a commitment that if was
our Lord's will then the money we were offered
would be provided. The money did not
come.....
Greed gets many of those who go after these
kinds of things in trouble. The bottom line is
if we were not greedy the Nigerians would not
be able to pull off these scams. It is however,
sad to say that our government really does not
seem to want to do to much about it.

The impression that greed is a good reason
not to bother helping victims is one major
stumbling block to stopping these crimes. It is
a fine line sometimes between hope, opportunity
and greed. The Nigerian scammers even go after
church members offering to bequest money to
their good works. This bypasses greed and goes
after one's altruistic and charitable nature as
you try to help out your cause.

My wife and I are missionaries and I do not
disagree that it still needs to be dealt with,
though it does not belittle the point of greed
in society, even for churches. Had we not made
the commitment that if it was truly our Lords
will that this should happen, and at no cost to
us, my story would be different.
As it was, it challenged us both deeply. The
fact is, this is shows that the moral fiber in
our society is in desperate need of healing. I
praise God that you were willing to fill in the
breech and do something about it with your
site. What I should have done the moment the
offer arrived was to put in the trash where it
belongs.
I still get the letters on a regular basis
but my answer is now a bit different than it
was before and that seems to keep them from
coming back a second and third time. I am
telling them no and why.
They really are missing their calling for
they could become top notch fiction
writers.

03/04 - The World Land Trust received an
email purporting to come from a representative
of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation
Direct Impact Grant Program, saying they would
like to consider the charity for its next round
of funding.
These sort of approaches are not so unusual
as to raise any suspicions, and the request to
send copies of recent accounts, new projects,
address of our website etc. made it even more
realistic.
And of course the Gates Foundation has the
reputation of dishing out substantial grants.
So they sent off their application, and
received a standard acknowledgment by return,
which is what one would expect. They thought
little more about it until earlier this week,
when an email came in informing them that they
had been awarded $5million. Immediately the
penny dropped, and they realised it was a
scam.
In order to make sure they didn't fall for a
scam of this sort in the future they spent a
bit of time checking it out. The email awarding
the grant directed them to a website
AngloTrustBank.com, which has no phone numbers,
and the only address is a PO Box number in
Swindon, and no company of that name or similar
registered with Companies House, all of which
are highly suspicious.
A quick call to the Metropolitan Police
Fraud Squad confirmed that it was a known scam.
But the worry is that some charities might get
caught - and would they report it since it
could get them into serious trouble to admit
they had been caught.
The World Land Trust is a relatively
sophisticated internet user, and one of the few
charities raising a significant part of its
income from the internet. There is a concern
then, for smaller, more naive charities who are
not geared up to deal with situations like
this. So far it appears that little publicity
has been given to this scam aimed at the
charity sector.
